What we do
Jonkershoek Special Ratings Area (JSRA) is a public-private partnership, formerly established in 2015 between local property owners and the Stellenbosch Municipality. Its aim is to supplement and enhance basic services provided by the Municipality. Its focus is security, maintenance and beautification. It does not replace municipal services, or private alarm response services.

About us

The Municipality of Stellenbosch established the JSRA in April 2015 – in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act in conjunction with the municipality’s Special Ratings Area By-Law and Special Ratings Areas Policy.

The Jonkershoek SRA operations area includes the farms in the Jonkershoek Valley, Karindal, Mostertsdrift, Rozendal, Uniepark and Simonsig.

The Jonkershoek SRA is binding on all property owners living inside its borders. A special monthly tariff based on each property’s municipal valuation is paid over to a not for profit company that provides security, patrols, manages public spaces, maintains and beautifies the area and provides related services.

A board was elected at a public meeting of homeowners to manage the Jonkershoek SRA according to a 5-year plan approved by the Municipality. The board communicates with homeowners and submits results and future budgets at the annual meeting. The board reports monthly to the Municipality.
