TEACH CHILDREN
- Do not take sweets, money, cooldrinks, ANYTHING from strangers.
- Do not get into cars of unknown people or travel with them.
- If someone is following you, run, scream!!
- Write your name, parents’ telephone numbers inside your clothes and school bag (not on the outside)
- Always have a friend when playing in the street, walking or going somewhere. Strangers can grab you.
- Always tell your parents exactly where you are going, give them your friends’ contact numbers, let them know if your plans change.
- Learn the telephone numbers of your parents, a friend or family member by heart.
- Do not go to places you do not know.
- If you get lost or separated from your parents, ask a security or police officer for help. Do not look for them on your own.
- Never go with people you do not trust.
- Do not go to public toilets on your own. Take friends or parents along.
WHAT TO DO IN EMERGENCIES
- Remain calm.
- If possible: Find a safe place to hide, alert someone – SAPS – SECURITY – NEIGHBOURS.
- When confronted by suspect/s, cooperate as much as possible – REMEMBER PROPERTY CAN BE REPLACED BUT NOT A LIFE.
- Gather information and observe as much as possible, refrain from making eye contact.
